Is Biden bad for CNN?

It's no secret that the Trump's presidency was a goldmine for the news industry. An analysis by GBH shows media profits soared between 2016 and 2020, and they indicate Trump's coverage as a key factor in The New York Times digital circulation (growing from about 2 million to more than 7 million in two years) and The Washington Post's (going from about 100,000 to 200,000 in early 2016 to 3 million in November 2020). The same is true for cable news, with the combined prime-time audience of CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News going from about 3.1 million in 2015 to nearly 7.2 million in 2020.

With Joe Biden in the White House, though, the situation changed, and CNN, after a peak in January due to the events on the 6th, was one of the most affected.

Maybe this is one of the reasons they seem unable to let Trump go. During 2021 CNN seemed to cover Trump nearly as much as the current President... so we checked. We counted how many times Trump and Biden were mentioned on CNN's homepages during the whole year...
