Lincoln Project Co-Founder accused of harassment... not so interesting
Today many left-leaning media have distanced themselves from The Lincoln Project, but it hasn't always been so.
The Political Action Committee (PAC) The Lincoln Project was announced in December 2019 with an op-ed on the NYT. The PAC stated its aim was to defeat "President Trump and Trumpism" and that "Patriotism and the survival of our nation in the face of the crimes, corruption and corrosive nature of Donald Trump are a higher calling than mere politics."
Its primary co-founders were George Conway, Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, and John Weaver. Their mission and their endorsement of President Biden in the Democratic primary on April 15, 2020, understandably gave them positive visibility on left-leaning media.
On January 31, 2021, The New York Times reported that Weaver had been accused of harassment by 21 men. "His solicitations included sending messages to a 14-year-old, asking questions about his body while he was still in high school and then more pointed ones after he turned 18."
These revelations, that followed previous articles in The American Conservative and Forensic News, received more coverage on right-leaning media than on left-leaning ones.
In the week after the NYT article, some outlets, like CNN and The Washington Post, did not report the piece of news and both coverage and fallout were greater on right-leaning outlets. You can see a comparison by clicking on Show data.
